How to Enjoy Your Short Stay in Lagos - A Guest’s Guide

Seeking a guide for your Short Stay in Lagos?

Lagos, as we all know, has quite a reputation, locally and internationally. Your perception of Lagos solely depends on what you have heard, seen, or read. You must wonder if you have the right perception…

Bustling? Yes! Over-populated? Yes! Fun? Yeah right!

Lagos is an experience of a lifetime, one that leaves a memory worth reminiscing about. The city with a history of withstanding all odds. Whether it’s an economic downturn or a pandemic, Lagos remains that city you want to visit. At least, Alana agrees with us on this, and we quote her,

“ Lagos city is the deal!”

You must wonder who Alana is. Well, she was a guest we hosted last June, the start of 2021 summer at our Trendy One Bed Apartment Short let in Ikoyi. An African American who had never visited West Africa. You must imagine the summer holiday was the last thing on her mind when she embarked on her trip.

She was only in Lagos for a 3-week business trip. Funny how her short stay experience in Lagos turned out to be quite a good start on her summer holiday. Of the many things that charmed her were our top-notch hosting services for a start, the vibrancy of the city, the diversity, and the environs. Hence, she’s a devoted member of the Gidistays family.

ALANA’S SHORT STAY EXPERIENCE IN LAGOS CITY

Alana’s journey was an interesting one. The beginning was far-fetched; the hesitation and wariness in her tone as she called to confirm her apartment booking - from Airbnb. Almost as if she was certain our luxury and affordable One Bed Apartment in Ikoyi (adorned with every essential) couldn’t possibly exist in West Africa. On that phone call, she’d run her inquiry on all of our services and amenities. Her very own words were...

“Let’s say…” paused, “not that I doubt you. But I’m on a tight budget... if the light should go off, do you have candles?”

Our customer service had taken a special interest, offering to go overboard to ensure she felt safe and at home. Lagos is apparently home for all. (We are all about home; Our serviced short lets in Ikoyi are the perfect home away from home.)

By ensuring her safety, we offered her a pickup from the airport to our apartment in Dolphin Estate, Ikoyi.

She’d confessed to having been wowed by the coziness of her apartment the moment she checked in. She loved the secured Ikoyi neighborhood: the serenity and immense comfort. One of her initial fears was getting a cheap short let apartment in Lagos. However, she got her money’s worth and more; the workstation and fast internet Wi-Fi provided her with the means to work and take meetings right from her apartment. With our supplies and amenities, she could make her own breakfast. Our services blow her mind. It was easy to reach out to our staff for help. Our facility manager, who lived on the premises, was always willing to assist with her every query, even guiding her to download apps that made her stay more comfortable.

Before the end of the 1st week, Alana offered our head of customer experience a lunch treat for her devotion and consistency. And also for indulging her ignorance in the beginning. Alana didn’t stop gushing over how amazing Lagos was to her. The nightlife, tasty cuisine, and the natural beauties that surround it. By the end of her 3 weeks in our short let, she had toured Lagos and visited the mainland (Ojuelegba mostly, thanks to Wizkid). In addition, she made new Nigerian friends, visited 2 beaches, tasted a variety of indigenous African delicacies, visited art galleries, and had fallen in love with genres of African music that hadn’t hit the international market.

WHAT ALANA LOVES ABOUT HER SHORT STAY IN LAGOS

Alana’s guide to a comfortable stay in Lagos is narrowed to the 6 specific things she loves about Lagos

1. Bolt app

An online car hire, affordable and reliable. Alana owes her Lagos road experience to this app. The neat, professional drivers who always remain calm in the long hours of traffic. She confessed she got preferential treatment for being a foreigner. “It’s like every time they hear my accent, they go ‘Oh you’re American? Don’t worry, I’ll take the fastest route to your destination.’ And they always did. They made her feel safe on the streets of Lagos. Many drivers she met were educated young men and women like her. Each ride was a pleasant experience.

2. Jumia food app

An online app that enables you to order tasty meals from restaurants close to you, food can be delivered to your doorstep. This always solved her hunger problem and offered her choices as she could choose from a variety of restaurants and menus. Alana’s emphasis on her love for good food explains her immense love for this app.

3. Highlife music:

Who knew this would have her interest?‘Doings’ by Flavour N’abaniawas the first to win her soul. What she enjoys about this genre of music is the resonance that instantly flips the excitement in her. She remembered dancing away at Landmark beach and having this group of friends clap and hail at her. Now, she has all of Flavour N’abania highlife on her playlist.

4. Landmark Beach

A luxury private beach in Victoria Island Lagos. Alana’s time on this beach was rejuvenating and blissful moments. The sea, the contemporary designs, and the incredible view. This was her Lagos therapy and her most peaceful experience.

5. Boli & fish

Roasted plantain and grilled fish is a mouth-watering delicacy. Alana would sometimes go straight from her last meetings to Bole Oclock in Lekki phase 1.  This combination was her preferred dinner option during her short stay in Lagos.

6. Circa Lagos:

A fine dining and lounge. There is so much about Circa that made Alana fall in love. The relaxed ambience, haute cuisine, and great service. She hosted most of her high-end clients here. Besides the memorable atmosphere, the next best thing she loves about Circa Lagos is their Old Pesto Pasta. The only other place where she had a really nice Old Pesto Pasta was in Italy.

“God! I love Lasgidi, I’m definitely coming next summer with my friends. They’ll love it here.”

We are expecting Alana this July.
